Southwest River Raft Fishing

Southwest River Raft Fishing

Each river you fish in Newfoundland you will find has its own unique look and feel.  Southwest river is a smaller river with a good  run of salmon. The Southwest River valley is one of the most scenic areas in Newfoundland and is one of our favorite areas to take advantage of our raft fishing product.

The rafts we use are called Water Masters. They are a type of personal water craft built for fishing. They can be easily used by anglers of all ages.  On  small rivers such as Southwest which is littered with large rocks, small runs and short steadies. The Water Master Raft has proven to be the most effective way to fish. The advantages of fishing with the Water Masters are as follows:

  • on rivers such as Southwest, the fish can often be scattered in areas that aren’t none as regular pools.  Using the Water Masters an angler can cover all these areas and hook  more  fish.

  • Southwest River as mentioned before is a small river and this makes for small pools that are easily disturbed after hooking a few hard fighting salmon.  The rafts make it possible to keep fishing as you move to the next pool, increasing the amount of time your line is on the water, usually resulting in more fish caught.

  • Southwest River although it runs parallel with the Burgeo highway has pools that are difficult to access but with the use of our rafts a client can access them all easily.

  • Probably the best way the Water Master raft can help an angler is as a wading assistant. From your raft you can fish all day without exhausting yourself. One client commented “ I can wade and fish till I am 90 with one of these.”  An angler can stand and fish, fish from a seated position and as you drift along you can try all the rocks small runs and eddy lines.

Southwest River is certainly an ideal place to fish with our rafts but it is also a river that can be effectively fished on foot if this is the method our clients would prefer.
